From the old harbor town of Hoorn in North-Holland, Jos van Tol has been playing drums for a wide range of bands and acts. Playing big band jazz to punk rock, psychedelic rock to hip-hop. Jos is known for his creativity, strong pocket and ability to push a song to the next level. His style has been described as "cool", but also more progressive and aggressive.
After dropping out of the Music Technology program at the Utrecht School of the Arts, Jos started working full-time as a studio and live drummer. But he will often wear other hats as a sound designer, audio programmer, or educator.
Jos became more widely known as the drummer for neo-psych artist Jacco Gardner. With who he toured extensively throughout Europe and North-America, including successful performances on stages like SXSW, Eurosonic, and CMJ New York. Jos played all drums on Gardner's debut album Cabinet of Curiosities which was awarded the VPRO 3voor12 Award 2013 and the 2014 European Border Breakers Award.
Since then Jos has worked with a multitude of (international) artists. Also, under the Heartsnatcher moniker Jos releases solo recordings. He released the classical electronic music record triumph without euphoria and performed live on Le Guess Who?'s 24-Hour Drone Fest.
Jos's early influences include Robert Wyatt (Soft Machine), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) and Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra).
